In my portfolio, I wanted to show my evolution from my structure upbringing, which was taught and disciplined in my household, to a much looser and expressive self. Without realizing it, it became a norm for me to be structurally oriented due to the way I was raised. It translated to my daily life as an artist; locking me down from ever exploring art to its full potential. In this portfolio, I’m able to demonstrate my evolution of breaking down the walls and grabbing hold of the freedom of art.

Commentary: The first couple pieces [1-3] emphasized the control and structure that was ingrained into me. The reason I chose architecture was because of the amount of control I could have over my lines. Even the color scheme was thoroughly followed; blue represented structure and red represented life. The pieces 4 and 5, demonstrated the introduction to watercolor but still holding onto the skill set of being structured with the architecture. Furthermore, the contrast between piece 5 and 8 showed how the paper that was once the reference for my art became something I held and attempted to tear apart. The blue and red hand symbolized the freedom that I sought. You can see throughout the portfolio there was a lot of blue even in the later pieces; reflecting back to the structured basis that will always be the foundation of my art. It taught me the skill set to master and control my lines to show structure while being expressive and free with my art. The slow uncovering of self-portrait drawings highlight the importance of self- expression. The last piece [12] in my portfolio wraps up my concentration, as the randomness and looseness of the stippling style was used, but also somehow still structure due to how accurate the placement of the dots had to be. The acetate showed the transparency that I wanted to achieve through my portfolio.
